What is Class Act Canada?Top
Class Act Canada is a first-of-its-kind, Internet-based international contest that will award 10 deserving students from around the globe with an all-expenses paid education at Sprott-Shaw Community College in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.
Applicants are invited to upload a 60-90 second video clip in English themed, "What would I do with my degree/diploma from Sprott-Shaw!" to the Class Act Canada website as well as YouTube and then encourage all of their friends and family to vote for them.
The top 100 applicant finalists will be identified through a process of online public voting. A second and third round of voting will select and rank the top 20 vote getters before a panel of judges select the final 10 winners.
What is Sprott-Shaw Community College?Top
The modern campuses of Sprott-Shaw now train over 4,500 students each year. All locations – 17 campuses in B.C. – feature small class sizes, qualified instructors, hands-on training and a friendly, appropriate learning environment for adults of all ages. What is the prize?Top
The 10 winning prizes include a post-secondary education of up to three years, as well as living expenses for the duration of the winners' studies in Canada.
Am I eligible?Top
Students who graduated from a high school or its equivalent before August 1, 2009, are 19 years of age or older at time of entry (Canadian applicants must be 18 years or older at time of entry), are willing and legally entitled to travel to Canada and have any and all necessary documentation as may be required for presentation to Canadian and/or International customs and airport personnel are eligible provided they meet and abide by the conditions set out in the Rules & Regulations for the contest.
Who are we looking for?Top
- You must be 19 years of age or older at time of entry (Canadian applicants must be 18 years or older at time of entry).
- You must be legally able to travel to Canada and have any and all necessary documentation as may be required for presentation to Canadian and/or International customs and airport personnel.
- You must have a strong desire to learn and help others.
- You must be able to use social networking sites, video-sharing sites, blogs and more to get as many votes as possible.
- You must be able to write a blog after becoming a Class Act Canada champion about your experience on living and learning for free in the best place on earth.

Can I take the money instead?Top
No. There is no cash value, in part or whole, attached to these prizes. Any unused portion of a prize will be forfeited and have no cash value.
Does my application have to be in English?Top
Yes. Only video, audio and text applications in English will be accepted for this contest.
Can I appeal the final decisions/selections of the judges?Top
No. The decision of Class Act Canada's judges is final.
How would I get to British Columbia, Canada?Top
Each winner will receive a round-trip economy airfare leaving from a gateway in the country of residence as selected by Class Act Canada to the Vancouver International Airport in Canada. All travel arrangements and details will be handled and selected by Class Act Canada on behalf of the winners. Subject to availability and change. Blackout dates may apply. Travel related terms and conditions apply.
Additionally, winners will be responsible for transportation to and from originating airport, travel and medical insurance, travel documentation, airport improvement fees, taxes, gratuities, telephone calls, and any other expense not explicitly included in the prize.
What if I can't travel on the date chosen by Class Act Canada?Top
Should winners be unable to travel on the dates and times designated by Class Act Canada, the prize(s) will be forfeited and awarded to alternate winners.
Where would I be studying if I won?Top
You would be studying at one of Sprott-Shaw Community Colleges campuses in British Columbia, Canada, depending on the program of study you choose to pursue and course availability.
Where would I live during my studies?Top
A free homestay will be arranged for you for the duration of your stay in Canada.
Could I bring a friend, girl/boyfriend, partner, spouse, parent(s) or my children with me to Canada if I won?Top
Not within the parameters of the contest. The Class Act Canada contest provides a free post-secondary education and free living expenses for the contest winners only. Under Canadian federal and provincial law, we cannot be legally or financially responsible for third parties to the contest.
Is this a game of chance?Top
Absolutely not! This offer of an all-expenses paid free degree or diploma is not a game of chance and luck has nothing to do with who gets to be a Class Act Canada champion.
It will depend on your story, your video and most importantly how many people vote for you.
Your story, vision and desire to help others in your community must be compelling enough to persuade the judges in the final selection process.
Do I need to get a video camera in order to apply?Top
Not necessarily. We are not looking for high quality productions. You can make your video at an internet café, using a cell phone or perhaps you could ask your friends to help you. Just make it as well as you can, make it different so people will see it and vote for you. Then you can make a difference.
How will expenses, tuition fees etc be calculated and paid?Top
Sprott-Shaw College will administer all prizes. You will be given a full briefing on what to expect after the final announcements are made and prior to your departure to Canada.
Can I go home in an emergency?Top
Of course you can. But remember you have only one set of arrival and departure tickets.
What about passports and visas?Top
Sprott Shaw College will give you a formal letter to assist in your visa and passport application. This letter will state that you have been declared a Class Act Canada champion and your expenses and stay for the duration of the course chosen will be covered by Sprott-Shaw.
Sprott-Shaw will however, not be and is not your guarantor, if one is required.
You must ensure that you are legally able to travel to Canada and have any and all necessary documentation as may be required for presentation to Canadian and/or International customs and airport personnel.
Can I stay in Canada, after my studies?Top
No you can't. You may however, approach Immigration Canada to find out more about this on your own.
Will all applications be displayed online?Top
Yes. All video applications will be moderated to ensure they’re suitable to be posted. We reserve the right to refuse to post any video application for any reason.
Is the selection based on where the applicants come from?Top
No. All applications are based on the number of votes they get and will be judged equally, fairly and impartially on a strictly applied selection criteria. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, color, sex, religion, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or any other trait protected by Canadian laws.
What happens if I’m selected but cannot come to Canada?Top
The next best candidate will take your place.
